Let’s face it. It is really easy to look at someone else’s difficult circumstances with optimism and tell them to have faith, it will all work out. Seeing their mountain from afar off is different than when you are in the valley. Offering encouragement or positive thinking doesn’t really require faith in that situation.

My trouble is (if I am honest)… is when I am facing that mountain from the valley, I tend to worry and get anxiety. It’s true; I know that I should call on the promises of God, I know that He is in control, and I know that everything works out in the end, but I still get caught up looking at the size of the mountain.

There is a big difference between knowing something and truly believing with faith. In Mark 11:23, Jesus told us that if we tell the mountain to move and believe in our hearts that it will actually move, then it will go away. Of course He isn’t saying to look at Everest and say “move” and poof it drops into the sea! But what He is telling us is that when our troubles seem so big that they feel like mountains that our faith in Him will remove them.

I have heard and read that passage of scripture many times, but today I saw something in it that just jumped out. We have to TELL the mountain to move (not just believe it in our hearts or think it in our minds), we must say it aloud and believe in what we are saying. Articulating and speaking out the Word of God in our lives is unbelievably powerful. So the next time we face those troubles, let’s remember that we can all have mountain moving faith when we claim the promises of God.

And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Mark 11:22-23
