It starts at birth… mom puts you down after falling asleep in her arms and you begin to cry because you want her to keep holding you; it’s your will against hers.
Let’s face it, we spend most of our lives bucking against authority. Few people really love being told what to do. This struggle against the authorities in our lives is fairly constant in our lives. We struggle against our parents, our teachers, our bosses… and most importantly our God.
But to truly be successful we must learn to submit to authority, especially to the authority of God.
A great example of this lesson can be found in Deuteronomy chapter 28 when Moses is reminding Israel about the blessings and curses of the covenant with God that they are renewing. The curse section is about four times longer than the blessing section. But the blessing section comes first! (God is slow to anger and swift to show mercy.)
And in Deuteronomy 28:1 we are given a great promise about faithful obedience saying God will set us on high above all nations of the earth!! This makes a strong point that God desires our obedience…. at all costs and in all circumstances.
The message of this scripture highlights the importance of obedience and how it pleases God. There’s no doubt that God is making the point that if we fail to obey Him, there is no such thing as success. Every area of life will be impacted (cursed) in a great way when there is disobedience!
Isn’t it time for us lay down our struggle against Him and submit to Him as the one true authority?
