Why are we so busy all of the time? If you ask me “how are you?” I usually say “crazy” or “busy.” Honestly, for years I wore that like a badge of honor. Like for some reason, I think our society rewards and values “business.” It’s like somehow, we think busy is the opposite of lazy… but that simply isn’t true. Seems like all of us go from one thing to another, squeezing as much into the day as possible. We have become obsessed with “doing stuff.” I think we have done this to ourselves over the years…adding more and more into our lives rarely removing anything. I have to believe that God never intended us to be so “busy” especially about the things of the world.
Can you imagine being asked, “how are you?” and being able to say “peaceful” or “calm.”
What if we focus on the importance of ONE THING then trim the rest of the nonsensical activities from our lives. Paul said…in Philippians 3:13 “This one thing I do…” his life focused on one calling…why are we focused on so many? The only one that counts is what we are doing for Christ; at the end of our lives we aren’t going to wish we had spent more time cleaning, cooking, shuttling kids, working on a PowerPoint, completing a home improvement project, Facebook(ing), tweeting another funny cat video, emailing, going to meetings, hosting parties, juggling events, etc. We are going to want to know that our lives have been pleasing to God and that we have been faithful to Him. What we do for Christ while we are here is all that matters in eternity.
His lord said unto him, Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord. (Matthew 25:21 KJV)
