Have you ever felt like you are under attack? Like the walls are crushing in and there’s nowhere to turn? Sometimes it feels like we are carrying so many burdens. Whether it is at work or at home, with your children or your spouse, with your friends or your colleagues, with your finances or your health, we are all fighting battles that require us to be strong. Let’s be honest, have you ever thought: do I even have the strength to face the day? Have you ever just wanted to stay home or stay in bed? Occasionally it’s a fight to overcome the pressures of life and many of us get anxious that we can’t handle anymore.
When these feelings of anxiety creep up, I ask myself if I am battling unbelief with the promises of Christ. He says “My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness.” (2 Corinthians 12:9), and “Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.” (Deuteronomy 33:25). If only I could remember to lean on the promises of God, I would not feel such pressures in my life. My prayers should not be for strength, they should be for weakness or the willingness to surrender to Christ because when I am weak, He is made strong.
Why should we fight battles on our own, when God says that he will fight for us? What good does it do to be independent and strong, when we have a Heavenly Father who awaits our weakness so that we can lean on Him. If you are facing a life struggle, perhaps it’s time to turn it over to the Lord. Rely on His strength, He has the situation under complete control.
The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. Exodus 14:14
