The whole world has come to a pause due to COVID-19 and while it may seem like a loss of freedom, could it actually be that we are more free than ever?

For years we have been running from school to work to parties, plays, and practices to recitals and competitions, to games, matches and meets and more. We have been in a hurry in cars, trains, buses, and planes, in metros, Ubers, and Lyfts just to keep up; thinking that we were doing the best we could with the time we had.

This fast pace life has stolen quality time from many and most of all from our God.  The constant rush and hurry has robbed us of a quiet mind. But God works in mysterious ways, could it be that He is trying to slow us down? Could it be that He is trying to get us to “be still” and know that He is God (Psalm 46:10)? Is He saying “stand still” so that He can reason with us (1 Samuel 12:7)? Has He quieted the pace of life so that we can hear His voice? Are we listening?

It is my prayer that we use this time to purge the unnecessary things from our lives and hold onto what matters. God forbid that the social distancing restrictions are lifted and we go right back to the way things were!

Oh Lord let us gain a new perspective on life and live according to Your will! Let our eyes and ears be opened, that we might understand what you are teaching us. I know that the world has not been disrupted without purpose.

And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 1 Kings 19:12

Be Still
