If you have more than one child, you inevitability have heard the exclamation “ME FIRST!” It’s our nature to think of ourselves first. Don’t believe me? Put two toddlers and one toy on the floor and watch the tug-of-war take place!
Even with good parenting, as adults we are still stuck in the ME FIRST stage of life. Yet, if you want to experience true fulfillment, we must learn to FOLLOW the Lord. When Jesus said to follow Him in Luke 9, that’s what He wanted us yo do…. FOLLOW. And even when the Lord himself spoke, two of the guys responded to Him by saying sure I’ll follow you, but let “ME FIRST” do what I need to do (9:59 and 9:61).
Herein lies the heart of mankind. Why do we so often say “yes LORD, but ME FIRST?” What are we missing in God’s plan by focusing too much on what we want first? Isn’t it time for us to follow Him?
“Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment.” Matthew 22:37-38
